The sanctuary has been around for a long time and saved a koala or two in its day. It also hosts an amazing array of Australian animals. Koalas in all stages of life from babies and kindergarteners, to the elderly, all have a place to live here. You will please your guests to no end when they realize they can have their picture taken with a koala. The fact that you can walk amongst the kangaroos and wallabies is special in its own right. Then there are the dingoes, the Tasmanian devils, the wombats, and the platypus. You would have to travel great distances and be lucky to see all of these animals in their own habitats.
2 – Southbank
A stroll through Southbank is a great way to spend a day, a couple of hours, or an evening. Daytime you can hang out at the beach and swimming area, get some lunch or have a picnic. There are numerous venues for any meal of the day, in any way, pretty much from early morning to late in the evening. Speaking of the evening, entertainment goes on in a number of spots along the way, or you can sit and just enjoy the amazing view of the river city from any number of vantage points. The markets run throughout the weekend as well.
3 – The Beaches
Within an hour’s drive of Brisbane are an amazing amount of beaches. You can go to any of the popular ones or find some along the way that not many people go to. With the gorgeous white, silica sand and aqua blue water you can fill hours, walking, sun bathing or picnicking.
Did you know there is a beach at Point Arkwright that is peaceful and almost empty depending on the time of day or week that you go? Bribie Island as well, has some amazing places to stop for the day.
Much has been written about the summit. Let me just say, it is all true. Did you know that you can walk up from a number of vantage points from Chapel Hill, Bardon and the Gap? You can drive, take the bus or cycle to the top as well. You won’t want to forget your camera as the views are the best in the city. You can see to the surrounding mountains, and name them all, and see the islands off in the distance.
5 – The Islands
Last but not least are any of the islands that sit along the southeast Queensland coast. From the numerous amount in Redland Bay, including the favored Stradbroke Island and all of its stunning beaches, to the more adventurous Moreton Island, or farther away, the world heritage Fraser Island. All come with their own expenses but worth the visit and time taken to explore them.
