Boggo Road Gaol is a heritage-listed Australian prison located in Dutton Park.
This once notorious 19th century prison was once home to some of the nation‟s most infamous inmates, including James Finch and Andrew Stuart – the “Whiskey Au-Go-Go” murderers; Patrick Kenniff – Queensland’s last bushranger; “Slim” Halliday – the “Houdini of Boggo Road”, who escaped twice becoming one of Australia’s most famous escapologists; and Florence MacDonald – stepmother of the “Longreach Cinderella”.
However since its closure in November 1989, the site has become a popular attraction for tourists and locals. The No 2 Division and the remnants of No 1 Division were listed on the Queensland Heritage Register in 1993 and recent re-developments have seen the addition of the Boggo Road Gaol Museum, which features interactive displays of prison-related artefacts and a series of regular guided tours operated by the Boggo Road Gaol Historical Society, including an Ex-Inmate/Ex-Officer Tour and a Historical Tour. There are also regular Ghost Tours hosted by Ghost Tours Australia.
